Pleats

J. Mendel spring 2013 pleated dress

Alice+Olivia Floral pleated skirt

OASAP Bohemia calf length pleated dress

Since ancient Egyptian times, the pleat has been used to decorate dresses for the royals and rulers.  The famous collar of Mary Stuart, Kate Middleton's Emilia Wickstead dress, which she wore twice in two weeks to two separate but equally important events proves the classy timelessness of this textile trend.
Pleats shall forever be cool!)

The Peterpan collar

Oasap

This trend is often in and out of circuit but never dies out.  The peter pan collar has a whimsical girly feeling to it, synonymous with the essence of the ladies of the 1960s.  The collar itself is now popular as a separate neck accessory made from an assortment of jewels and fabrics.  It is a very durable and easy trend to wear, perfect for sprucing up a simple t-shirt or completing a perfectly tailored suit.

The 1920s

Authenticated by elaborate detailing, the gratuitous use of soft fabrics, the dropped waistline, this is what defined the decade.  Delicate, feminine and just plain fabulous, this look equates to the perfect description of a Woman. Cut on the bias (luxury personified) pleat detail, in soft hues, e.g, sorbets, nudes and metallic shades of gold and silver, are right on trend.
Satin, lace, chiffon, georgette, sequin, pearls, fringe...can you say "the grate Gadsby".

Cobalt

Comme des Gacons autumn/winter 2012-13

Erdem autumn/winter 2012-13

Lanvin autumn\winter 2012-13

Sportmax autumn/winter 2012-13

Cobalt is the new black this autumn\winter.   This trend originates from the love of primary colours, and will never go out of style.  If you are weary of overkill by doing a monochromatic look, have no fear, the Cobalt trend is easy to adjust by just mixing it with other primary colours, or graphic prints, and even florals.  Similar to the bold red lip, there is a shade of cobalt to suit every skin tone so we can all enjoy this trend.
When in doubt, add a bit of cobalt to finish of your look.

Walk The Line

Paul Smith Spring\Summer2013 London Fashion week

The idea of wearing top-to-toe strips can seem a bit unapproachable to the more modest dresser, but it is a fact that vertical stripes are flattering and can even elongate the body.  If that truth speaks relevance to you, I’d say make a sturdy effort to include this trend into your closet.  You can always start to introduce it by way of accessories or opting for garments with bolder lines, also not limiting yourself to straight lines.

Diane von Furstenberg spring\summer 2013
To pull this trend off successfully, always keep it simple with classic shapes and clean lines. Keep accessories at a minimum to keep a modern, balanced mood of style.
I'm loving the easy 'just a vest' casual feeling created by this sequin vest, designed by Diane von Furstenberg at Paris Fashion Week, and the classic silhouette of Victoria Secret model Karolina Kurkova's full sequin dress designed for her by Stylist Rachel Zoe at the Met Ball this year.
